Extended reality (XR) is great for business – but that's not its only function. Join us as we explore 10 great entertainment apps for Vuzix smart glasses.

Here at Expand Reality, we stock enterprise XR devices from enterprise XR manufacturers. Our MO is to help businesses extract more productivity and potential from extended reality technologies.

But that doesn't mean we're immune to fun. We're down for a bit of downtime, just as much as the next specialist technology supplier.

The good news is that lots of XR hardware can do double duty. Devices like the
Microsoft HoloLens and the Vuzix Blade 2 are great for dialling in with remote experts or accessing cloud-based documentation. But they're also equipped with app stores that stock a swathe of interesting and useful diversions. Think games, on-demand streaming solutions, digital toys…

In this post, we look at some of the best entertainment apps for Vuzix devices, such as the Blade 2 and M4000. They're all great fun – and some of them might even be suitable for the frontline.

    1. AR Beluga: dive into interactive entertainment

Placed first in the Vuzix Blade Contest (Entertainment category).

Remember Tamagotchi? This one's a bit like that.

Designed exclusively for the Vuzix Blade,
AR Beluga lets you engage with an adorable little whale who swims right before your eyes.

You can feed it. You can play with it. You can even play catch with it. Aww.

    Now, let's be honest.
AR Beluga is hardly going to change your life or file your taxes. But it's a fun diversion and a nice way to unwind.

    2. VuTube: YouTube redefined for the Blade

    Thanks to
VuTube, you can now enjoy your favourite YouTube videos like never before.

The app is a specially designed, lightweight version of YouTube for the Vuzix Blade. You can navigate through videos seamlessly, as the user experience has been optimised for the device. Expect a visually engaging journey through all your favourite content.

    3. Dino Hunt: embark on a prehistoric adventure

    Travel back in time with
Dino Hunt, an exclusive first-person shooter designed by Vuzix for the Blade.

As you make your way through jungles and caves, you'll come across friendly herbivores and not-so-friendly carnivores. Thankfully, you have an arsenal of rifles and rocket launchers at your disposal.
    Sayonara, Spinosaurus.

    Dino Hunt
a family-friendly adventure that features 28 levels of exciting gameplay.

    4. Rewind Recorder: never miss a moment

Placed second in the Vuzix Blade Contest (Personal category).

This app ensures you never miss life's precious moments. It discreetly captures the world around you as you go about your day. If you spot something worth keeping, you can "rewind" your point of view and save the results as a video.

Whether it's your child's first steps, a conversation with a loved one or bumping into your favourite musician in the street, this app records everything. It's a clever way to capture all the moments that matter.

    5. Screen Camera: seamlessly capture your screen

Recording your Vuzix device's screen has never been easier than with
    Screen Camera.

This user-friendly app offers touchpad and button navigation, making the process a breeze. It automatically captures high-resolution screen recordings and screenshots, providing you with a convenient way to share content across your devices.

    6. Amazon Alexa: your virtual assistant on the Blade

Say hello to Amazon Alexa on your Vuzix Blade.

This integration brings voice-controlled convenience to a whole new level. You can play music, check the weather, control smart home devices and more – all through simple voice commands.

Of course, you need an Amazon account to use it. But if you're already on board with the Alexa ecosystem, it's a great way to access your virtual assistant on the go.

    7. Moonlight: gaming in a new dimension

Placed second in the Vuzix Blade Contest (Entertainment category).

Serious gamers, this one's for you.

    Moonlight
brings PC gaming to a whole new dimension. It lets you stream games, programs and even your desktop from an NVIDIA GameStream-compatible PC directly to your Blade.

Enjoy immersive gaming experiences, precise controls and a vast library of titles to explore –
Moonlight works with all gaming app stores.

    8. Pinterest: scrapbooking for the 21st century

    Unleash your creativity with
Pinterest on the Blade. Explore a world of possibilities, from home design concepts to your new favourite recipes.

If you're planning a DIY project, a wedding or the trip of a lifetime,
Pinterest is your inspiration hub. It lets you save, organise and share your ideas – all from your Vuzix smart glasses.

    9. Amazon Prime Video: stream Amazon Prime content in a whole new way

Take your Prime with you wherever you go.
Amazon Prime Video lets you stream and download popular movies and TV shows – including exclusive Amazon content straight – to your smart glasses.

From binge-watching your favourite series to enjoying the latest blockbusters, this app keeps you entertained anytime, anywhere. It even comes with the option to download content for offline viewing.

    10. Google Earth

Experience our planet like never before with the remarkable features of
    Google Earth

You can discover the wonders of the globe through satellite imagery and 3D terrain, spanning entire continents. You can wander through cityscapes with intricate 3D buildings. And you can zoom into some locations and immerse yourself in a 360° panorama using Street View.

Not sure where to explore next? Just roll the dice!
Google Earth lets you hop between random destinations to discover new places. You can even take guided tours put together by trusted names like BBC Earth, NASA and National Geographic.

Bonus entry: The vOICe for Android

Placed first in the Vuzix Blade Contest (Personal category).

    OK. This
is hardly an entertainment app. It's more of an accessibility tool. But it's so ingenious and potentially transformative that we simply had to include it here.

    The vOICe for Android
redefines how visually impaired people experience the world. It uses augmented reality (AR) to translate live camera feeds into detailed soundscapes.

By utilising pitch for height and loudness for brightness, this app creates a vivid auditory representation of a visual environment.

Every detail is meticulously crafted in sound. Distinct lines become rising tones. Bright spots become beeps. With enough practice, a visually impaired person can learn to interpret these signals and build a mental map of their surroundings.

The app works best with smart glasses, such as the Blade, and a pair of stereo headphones.

    Final words

Whether you're a gaming enthusiast or a creative soul – or you're simply looking for helpful tools for your everyday life – the Vuzix App Store has something that fits the bill.

Want to try some of these apps for yourself? You can
purchase the Vuzix M4000 and Vuzix Blade 2 right here at Expand Reality. Happy exploring!
